Stacking up…

Monday, October 31st, 2005

Havn't updated for a couple of days so here's a brief rundown of what i've been upto over the weekend.

On friday Claire came over to Hull and me, Claire and Kaspar went and played badminton. I am really getting into this badminton thing and were playing quite alot recently, which is good because it's more excercise for me :D So after badminto me and Claire had a chinese stirfry with chicken in soy sauce and seseme seeds and duck spring roles. We got the idea for the chicken from a dish called bang bang chicken in the chinese book Claire got me last week, very nice it was too.

Saturday night we all (everyone in the house (apart from two) and Claire) went to the Hull University Union drama society Halloween party type thing at the Haworth Arms. All but two who went were dressed up and various games were played such as limbo, musical statues and best costume competition, I might put some pictures up of it soon. I went as a vampire chef and Claire went as a witch. Halloween is a great excuse to dress up and make a fool of yourself!

Sunday morning, after seeing Claire off from to house I went back to bed, I suprisingly wasn't hung over but was a bit tired. So when I didn't finally get up I looked at some work (;)) then played a little bit of WoW. Sunday night I went to the zachariah pearson with the guys for some food, had a really nice surf and turf meal (steak and scampi, 2 of my favorite foods), I'll definatly go back for another at some point.

So onto this morning. I got up at 9am, came into uni for a lecture on commercial games development which is very interesting. As I think I've mentioned before, I'm very much interested in the business side and the user orientated side of computers, I just have to figure out how to combine the two and bam, I might have a chance of actually deciding what I want to do with my life, for a short time at least. I've just been and got something to eat from the little cafe on campus and am now in the computer labs updating my blog. It's a hard life being a student…
I'm hanging around for my 1:15pm lecture on Strategic Planning and Systems Development. Again, this module is quite business orientated so I'm enjoying it. I'm pretty please at how the course has turned out, you'd expect that doing a Computer Science with Business Information Engineering course to be heavily business orientated but it's not, it's really well balenced.

So now I'm going to kill a bit of time untill 1pm by doing some coursework, yay!

It Just Feels So Damn Good!!

Tuesday, October 25th, 2005

So tonight have been to the gym with Kaspar again, keeping it going which is good. Hopefully I can get into a full blown routine and continue to get fitter.

Now, once upon a time I used to play alot of sports and be generally very active. I'm finding that I've missed having so much physical activity! I've been inactive (in a sports and fitness sense) for quite sometime and had started to feel pretty unfit. So it's coming as quite a shock that I have so much energy all of a sudden, apart from mornings that is!

I can't wait till my next game of badminton with Steve, should be a tough one as I think Steve is determined to practice and beat me the next time we meet!

Tommorow is wednesday and I'm going over to Claire's in Leeds once I've finished at uni. I'm going over to set up thier broadband so they can all share the connection. They in turn are going to made tea, woo! Can't beat having a couple of women make tea for ya ;) I am of course basing this on my mums home cooked meals! lol.

I would just like to say that I am currently listening to Silence by Delerium feat Sarah Mclachlan and it is as it has always been an amazing song, anyone who has it must listen to it again and anyone that doesn't… must go buy a cd with it on ;) Amazon Have It

Anyway, am going to go do some work then am going to sit infront of the TV and watch Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares and the Closer, both excellent programs if your stuck for watchable terrestrial TV on a tuesday night!

Back In Hull

Tuesday, October 25th, 2005

I've just got back into Hull from Ripon after a great weekend. Have decided that tonight I'm going to kick back and relax, making it a whole weekend of doing not a lot. I went home on Friday afternoon for my sister Kara's 8th birthday (Yikes). So I made it back into Ripon in time to surprise her and pick her up from school. She liked that very much. She's being missing me a lot recently so I'm told. Which is nice. So when we got home we mungled about a bit, Kara showed me what she'd made for me whilst I was away, being the very sweet girl she is. So just before she went to her dads for the weekend we let her open the present me and Claire got her. We got her a 3 game sin one, chess, checkers and backgammon set so she can practice her chess (she very clever indeed). So once she'd gone to her dads, me and Steve, my mums partner went and played badminton, and had a great time. And in a traditional manner, here are the scores… 1st game - Me 21-16 Steve
2nd game - Me 21-6 Steve 3rd game - Me 21-18 Steve
Ouch, he won't like the see them scores again…Oh how I love badminton!! So on Saturday I went to see my dad who got out of hospital on Friday from having an operation on his stomach. He's not the biggest fan of soups at the minute and I fear his dislike for them might increase over the coming months. Might have to make him a nice soup and take it over :) I hope you're on solids ASAP dad! Once I'd got back from my unfortunately brief trip to see my Dad and Karen (His partner (you keeping up with partners this far? good)) me and Claire (my partner, lol) went to the Hong Kong Chinese restaurant in Ripon, our favorite. We had an excellent meal and then wondered home and watched some films with Mum and Steve. So this morning me and Claire played backgammon and me and my Mum played chess (which I'm sure she won't mind me saying I won at), although she went a bit soft on me for a couple of moves, lol. So after that me and Claire went to her house and then to McArther Glen designer outlet in York to get me some trainers. We both bought a couple of little pieces for the Halloween party were going to next Saturday and Claire bought me some food books on China, Italy and India. So I've just got back and am going to watch some TV or play some computer games… bye!

Tired

Thursday, October 20th, 2005

I'm very tired tonight but am being a good boy!

I've just being doing some design work on my final year project database. I'm quizzing myself as to weather or not to use LONGINT to hold my barcode information of 12 numbers or to store it as a char. It's too big for an int(11) and doesn't fill a longint(20). Also it cuts off any leading 0's. So when entering the barcode 000328822617(Walkers Thai Sweet Chilli Sensations (REASEARCH!!)) it stores as 328822617! Grrr!!

So suggestion on a postcard… or the comment box, it's up to you really!

So after my 9:15 I went home again and chilled, then at 4pm me and my housemates Kaspar, Phil and Sam went to the sports centre to play badminton. It's all part of our 'get some exercise and get away from your computer you bum(tm)' routine that we have on a Thursday (from today on…). Scores went as follows…
Greeny Sam 15 - 12 Kaspar Phil
Greeny Phil 15 - 10 Kaspar Sam
Greeny Kaspar 17 - 12 Sam Phil
I Like Badminton a lot!!!

After that me and Kaspar, not wanting to let ourselves slip, went to the gym for an hour and had a good work out. I've actually lost a stone in one and a half weeks, needed top come off I guess! So I'm going to spell check this so my mum doesn't moan about it and go to bed. Night.

Woo, Flesch Reading Ease 71.4%, Flesch Kincaid Grade Level 6.7.
Flesch according to Microsoft Word(tm) spellchecker is spelt wrong, funny that!

If anyone can tell me what they mean that would be great!!

Oops!!

I just missed a lecture! I was on my way there when confusion struck and I entered the wrong building to go to the wrong lecture theatre. I was meant to be in LA-LTC (Larkin Building, Lecture Theatre C), instead I went to RB-LTC (Robert Blackburn), Do'h!

So arriving 15 minutes late wasn't really an option, hopefully I can make up the notes off the interweb, although I'll have to get a copy off someone who was in the lecture too.

So after i've finished in the labs here, it's time for my final year project meeting with Dr Bing Wang and he's going to give us(all his supervisees) feedback on the initial report we submitted on friday. Which i'm eager to find out as I think I worked pretty well on that peice. Will let you all(?) know how that went.

Then, it's off to the gym, I've been going to the gym twice a week (for 1 week now, lol) with my housemate Kaspar who insisted I do "ONE MORE!!" of everything and nearly beat me half to death. Well today buddy, it's my go to inflict some damage! Mwahahahaha*cough* *splutter*

First Hurdle Cleared

Friday, October 14th, 2005

Today I handed in my Final Year Project Initial Report which is the first of three reports based on my final year project software. It involves identifying the tasks and an explanation of what's involved.

We create a piece of software and document the development, although there is a presentation of the software it is only worth a small amount of marks, 5% I think. So the majority of marks are from the final year project final report. So whilst writing the software we have to document it… this is hard. It is so easy to get lost in "the zone" when coding that you can make so many changes that affect the way something works in a relatively small amount of time, thus making it hard to document or even remember what you've done.

So that's that out of the way. next week i start on the design of the database that will support my software and I'm looking forward to it. Next week is the start of my project plan in terms of actually software development and I'm going to stick to it. every two weeks has a different piece of the software to write so I don't spend to long or not enough time on each section.

So that out of the way, I'm going to relax for the weekend. Starting with my mum and her boyfriend (it was a toss up between boyfriend and partner) coming over to Hull on Saturday lunch to come and see me. Might even get them to come to the fair with us all, will be fun!

So much tidying must be done before 2moro… or not, our house is always tidy ;)

Events!!! Woo!!

Sunday, October 9th, 2005

Tonight me and my housemates and Claire had an event night (Who came up with that name???) with a mexican theme. We had fajitas, nachos (ala dishes(with guacamolie and salsa(homemade))), tequila, what else mexican is there?

So a great night was had and disapointingly not much tequila was drunk(they don't like it, lol).

So tommorow were having a pork roast sunday lunch and me,
Claire and Naomi are cooking again, although I can't complain. Theres nothing better than sitting in a room of your housemates while they all quetly mucnh on a meal you've made, it's a big unspoken compliment.

Well, just a short one tonight readers, and for those that are reading on RSS, keep it up, my stats keep growing all the time ;)

132 Proof… Testing HTML input

Thursday, October 6th, 2005

<strong>Bacardi 151</strong>
Congratulations! You're 132 proof, with specific scores in beer (100) , wine (100), and liquor (86).
All right. No more messing around. Your knowledge of alcohol is so high that you have drinking and getting plastered down to a science. Sure, you could get wasted drinking beer, but who needs all those trips to the bathroom? You head straight for the bar and pick up that which is most efficient.
<div align="center"><img src="http://is2.okcupid.com/mt_pics/146/14674075597740859281/16336235046633759176-7.jpg"></div>
The test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people <i>your age and gender</i>:
You scored higher than <strong>61%<strong> on <strong>proof</strong>
You scored higher than <strong>86%</strong> on <strong>beer</strong>
You scored higher than <strong>91%</strong> on <strong>wine</strong>
You scored higher than <strong>83%</strong> on <strong>liquor</strong>
