FragFest III

Monday, February 27th, 2006

I went to the Comsoc fragfest on saturday and it was fantastic. It's great to be part of an event that is so well received. Everyone that goes, does so because they want to play games and that's exactly what they do.

Once everyone arrived we kicked off with a UT2004 tournement. Top 8 player from the first round go through, I came 8th, woo, Phil my housemate came 9th, nur nur!
Then in the next round it was the top 4 and I came 8th again with a record score of -2. yey! It has to be said that I sucked balls, got 4 kills and commited suicide 6 times, way to go. Then we all generally larked about and I played some CounterStrike:Source, Unreal Tournement 2004 and Enemy Territory. All great games.

So after dinner we had an Enemy Territory tournement, The team I was in, team 4 were doing really well untill the server crashed and everyone playing couldn't be bothered with another hours play so both teams forfited and the winner of the other game took the win. Even though the server deid and no-one won, a great game was had by all and Rob I think, enjoyed himself alot.

Happy Birthday

Friday, February 24th, 2006

Happy 21st Birthday to my housemate Kwame. In celebration Kwames Dad, very generously took all of us housemates, Claire, his sister, his cousin and her fiance to the Aroma Chinese restaurant on Beverly Road. The food there was amazing and very fresh.

For starter we were given two large starter selections, of which the chicken satay skewers, the spare ribs and the seaweed were excellent. The spare ribs were even better than my regular chinese restaurant, The Hong Kong back home. To follow was crispy duck, pancakes and hoi sin sauce, so you can make your own crispy duck pancakes. The duck was especially tasty and well cooked. Then we ordered dishes of our choice, Claire and me ordered beef in black bean sauce to share which was suprisingly spicy, there were no complaints about any of the other dishes, they all looked really good. A great time was had by all, I can definatly reccomend going to Aroma for a really nice meal.

The Way Not To Start A Day

Friday, February 17th, 2006

..is to not get a knock on the door from the police informing you that for the 2nd time in as many weeks someone has smashed the window on your car. Great.

To be honest, when my passenger side wing mirror got broken off on mischeif night I thought fair enough, it was bound to happen and they did the whole street. Then on Saturday the 4th of feb my driver side wing mirror got broken off, again i'm a fairly laid back kinda guy, it's a quick fix and I can get both wing mirrors from the scrap yard. Then on Wednesday the 8th I get a phone call informaing me that my driver side rear window has been smashed, again I remain calm, call my mum and ask her to pick me up some wing mirrors and the replacement window from the scrap yard. £20 and a trip to Hull for my mum and Steve was all the damage. But now… now I'm seriously angry. I don't get angry often but I'm spitting feathers right about now. So no, not the best way to start the day. Am proberbly not going to sleep now either. Great.

Progress Progression

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

Things are coming on, my FYP is at a stage where the end is near dispite a couple of hicups. Mainly in me not realising exactly what I needed and having to add bits. Still, it gives me more to write in my report. I just hope that I can have it work so well that I don't show any errors in my presentation, that would be baaad!

Am going to goto the gym tonight, I've decided that I need to get tough on myself to loose more weight. I'm playing squash quite a bit now and have improved my fitness alot. But now it's a case of using the fitnes that i've gained to loose more weight. It's not that i'm desperate to loose weight, I just want to see if I can! So next time you see, tell wether you think I'm doing well or not.

Foul Moods

Monday, February 13th, 2006

I've been in a pretty foul mood for most of the afternoon now. I really dont know why. I think it might be stress. So to try and releive some of my stress without storming round the house and getting on my housemates cases about washgin up, I swept and mopped the kitchen floor. Feeling a little bit better but this is the first time i've ever actually felt in need of a drink. Must be my man period.

For anyone who has a GMail account you should checkout the chats feature. it comes up in the left hand bar of your GMail inbox once you've logged in. It's quite a nice feature, so what I really need now is for someone to test it out with. So anyone that wants to give it a whirl add me on dtgreenwood@gmail.com and then I can give it a bash. I wouldn't leave it to late tonight, I might be a little worse for wear in a few hours :)

The Business

Friday, February 10th, 2006

Last night we watch The Business. The business is meant to be a gangster film about a young lad that travels abroad because he gets into trouble and gets involved in a drug ring. It shows his rise from nothing to being highly involved in the runnin, other dodgy dealings and then the inevitable downfall caused by greed. All in all a movie worth watching. Fans of Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and Layer Cake beware, it's not nearly as clever as these slick gangster flicks.

Unleashed

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

I've just finished watching Unleashed with Jet Li, Morgan Freeman, Bob Hoskins and Kelly Condon and must say it's a fantastic film. Jet Li plays a role much different than his usual and the film isn't not stop action. This said though, the action it has doesn't disappoint. Jet Li as usual kick ass. The story is based on a guy called Danny(Jet Li) who is raised like a dog but has some uber ass kicking skills, he basically lives to kick whoevers arse uncle Bart(Bob Hoskins) has taken a dislike to for whatever reason, usually money. The short of it is that Danny escapes his 'Uncle' and finds a new family in Sam(Morgan Freeman) and Victoria(Kelly Condon). But uncle Bart finds him and wants him back. So starts the ass whooping of a lifetime to gain his freedom. Worth a watch and has something all movie people(a story and some amazing fights).

I played squash with adam again tonight, I must be getting better because I manage to win 1 out of the 3 games we played. Lol. Though only on the American rules. Am hopefully going to play again tommorow.

Right now i'm going to sit and do my 08343 group coursework and get it out of the way.

Oh, while I remember, i've installed and am currently playing with Trace Watch web statistics on my website, take a look, some very cool stuff on it.
Also, after Mark VandeWettering linked The Baby Name Wizard I've been having a play. It seems that David reached the height of it's popularity in the 1960's and reached 2nd position. Not suprising seeing as most of the people my dad seems to know are called David, as is he… and me.

The Campaign Trail

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

Today was the first day of the Student Elections and my god!!!! Paper everywhere!!! No wonder it's called the campaign trial it leave a huge one! Other than the entire waste of paper you can't move outside the university library without being handed numerous flyers and sweets. Now I can't pretend that i've been the biggest follower of candidates policies but the Ellection Special of Hullfire (our unions student magazing) seemed to be more of a popularity contest for some of the candidates.

However, that said David Morris is running for a position in the union and actually has a manifesto worth taking note of. I wish david good luck and I shall be voting for him. Good luck also, to Steven Turner and Pete Westorm who are also up for election.

Tonight I played squash with adam and got my ass handed too me! I will beat him one day! First game Adam won 3-1 but the round I won, I got him 9-1, w00t! lol. I also had a group meeting for my new peice of coursework in commercial games process. We have to make a bee game based on the same specs as the ACW I did over Christmas. I'm in a grouo with some cool guys so it should be fun. I am however going to have to brushup on my coding skills as I have the user interface to make.
