Can I Get A Hell Yeah!!?!?

Friday, March 31st, 2006

Today I handed in my final year project. It feels good if not a little nerve racking, I keep thinking that I could have missed something.

Although I'm very relieved about getting it handed, I am very annoyed with myself. My printing and binding cost £62. How I hear you cry. Well basically it was my fault. My final report was 49 pages long, 8 of which were colour. I had to get two copies printed totalling 98 pages. The problem was i had to print it twice because for some stupid rookie reason i managed to put the number of pages at the bottom of every page instead of the page number. This I can only put down to a severe lack of sleep and the fact that when checking the document I neglected to review the header and footer. But hey ho, it's done now.

In much happier news, my new mobile phone from dot mobile arrived today, just before I went to the printers infact, pleasure pain theory in practice here? So I've been playing with it and am in love already. It has a very funky 2.0 megapixel camera and really neat little mp3 player. I think we're going to get along just fine.

So at the moment I'm working on the group project documentation with Andy over MSN and I think were nailing it! W00t, go team!! We Rock and our game is awsome. Check out the picture on the mediacast.

Getting There

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

I'm getting towards the end of my Final Year Project Dissertation, woo. I have, as of typing this peice of self-indulgant news, 10,106 words and a feature complete Stock Management System. I'm very pleased with my creation and even more pleased that it has been a great way to learn some neat stuff about C# and ADO.net.

Another programming language to add to my… limited catalogue (HTML(does that even count anymore?), Java, PHP, SQL, C# and very limited C++(FTL!)). Well, after a quick fluid topup I'm going to get back too it.

Sleepy Nappy Time PT.2

Tuesday, March 28th, 2006

Ok, so I didn't actually get to yesterday after all that, so I've now been up for 36 hours, which I know doesn't sound that impressive but it feels it!!

So, To bed, an early start, have to go get my project report back from my supervisor to view his feedback. Then I can put the finishing touches to my report and relax for 10 minutes. Then it's onto the group project report which is in for friday along with a presentation. All I can say is that I'm glad it's the final week because next week… I'm sleeping!!!

Sleepy Nappy Time

Monday, March 27th, 2006

My brain has reverted to a 7 year old state where by farts are funny and walking around in the rain is fun. All this because of an all nighter… not sure it was worth it, although I can't wait for this dissertation to be finished. The software is complete, just the report to do. grrrrr.

Anyway, am going for a nap untill Monk is on at 14:35, then going back to bed. It's a students life to be sure.

Caffeine Rush

Saturday, March 25th, 2006

Is working on a major peice of coursework with a caffeine rush a good idea? Well, I'm about to find out.

How do people actually find being high on caffeine actually helps them function? Maybe it's because I dont drink alot of coffee but I just feel a bit hyperactive. On the other hand my brother James is a useless human being if he doesn't have an above 10% caffeine blood content. He becomes normal at around 50% I reckon.

So, on with my dissertation, does that sound better than Final Year Project Final Report? I'm not sure. I just thought of a great procrastination excercise… a plugin for Microsoft wors that could send my stats to my website. Words to go, time spent… ok, so it's a bad idea but as far as procrastination goes… this is much better. Anyway 6,212 words down, 8,788 to go. w00t!

Bleeding Ears

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

The firealarm has been going off pretty much constantly for the past 5 hours! It's not the normal 'fire' alarm, it's an annoying beeping coming from the unit that tells us we have a fault! Grrrr. It's been happening on(mostly) and off since saturday morning. It's starting to effect my brains functionality!!

Ahhh!!!

Just so you people can experiance the pain that we are enduring, Phil has created a handy YTMND for you all.

Week 10 Woes

Friday, March 17th, 2006

It's the end of week 10 and this means that all scheduled lectures have run thier course. And everyone is now officially in "OMG Got to get my courswork done" mode. Myself included.

However, for the first time i'm not panicing as much as I have in the past. I've been good this year, done my courseworks in good time, got decent grades and have enjoyed the whole thing loads.

I've also just found out that through error (a good one though) that i have almost completed a peice of coursework a month early… a record for me perhaps.

So now, I get to concentrate on completing my FYP and my group project. Ohh, speaking of which, I have a meeting to get to now. Cheerio!

The Pressure Is On!

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

Wow, is it ever. I have three peices of coursework in for the same week… the one after next.

My final year project report needs another 11,000 words before it hits the limit, my code for it needs commenting and a couple of features are still left to do. Can all brain cells please congregate in the lobby please!!

I've found that my body clock has shifted in the most bizzare way, I've been pretty good recently but one late night and bang it's out the window, makes me think that if it's that easy my body might actually prefer getting up at 2pm (Just intime to Monk) and going to bed at 6am next morning.

Now, too find the perfect job that fits in with this timeframe… perhaps a self imployed website designer??

Ohh, on a much lighter note, I've been invited to appear on a show on RadioRSP (internet radio station, really good)at some point ofter I finish uni. I've been on once before and it was lots of fun, am quite looking forward to it. Check out the Ollie C show on Wednesdays at 19:00GMT.

Snow And Depleating Time

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006

Well, it would seem that time has once again crept up on me and I know only have 2 1/2 weeks left of timetabled University. eeek. After that time it's the easter holiday and then exams, great :( I don't like exams but at least these ones will be over pretty swiftly. My first is on 27th April and my second and last is on May 05th.

Help!! I have a group project report to write aswell as fixing my HUD (heads up display) for the game so it displays all the correct information, a software engineering ACW to complete and a 15,000 word final year project report to do. All this aswell as finishing my actually project coding and documenting it all. At the moment, the final year project and the group project are worrying me the most.

I'm trying to get the software engineering coursework finished before friday because if I don't Claire says she won't come over on Friday. This is a good thing as I do want to her to come over and it seems that a little push has done no harm so far.

I've worked out that to hit my word limit I need to spend 3 hours a day on my project and do 375 words per hour. this might sound like an easy thing to do, but in my experiance it isn't, not for me anyway. Luckyly some of this it taken up by the user documentation. Phew.

In other news… It snowed in Hull last night and my did the street look nice this morning, it snowed and it settled. It was great. Untill it came time for me to walk to university and then things got a bit wet… and slippy. Grr.

The Week So Far

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

So far this week has been kind of eventfull. Claire came over on Sunday night at about midnight, not like her at all. The one time she decides to be spontanious and there is a crash on the A64 causing a traffic standstill. Doh. Monday I went into uni and the group i'm in for my Commercial Games Process group coursework had to give a presentation. I don't like presentations, i'm much more of a person to person kind of guy. So that went ok and progress on our group game is goping well. Might have a copy up on here when it's done. Me Claire and Naomi also dragged Kaspar bowling and to KFC for his birthday, not quite the "go out and get lashed" attitude that students are meant to have but was lots of fun all the same and I managed to win the first game. Also, I was very happy because for all the culinary knowledge i'm supposed to have, I LOVE KFC!!!

On Tuesday we had a lecturer strike at uni so I didn't attend my normally scheduled lectures just incase they were cancelled, I stayed in bed instead, so did Claire ;) We then went and played some more squash. I'm currently teaching Claire how to play and for a second go she's not that bad to be perfectly fair. Which is good, stops me getting too frustrated. After playing squash Claire went on her merry way back to Leeds because she had lectures on wed and I got on with some more of my group project. Woo.

Today has been a fun day in addition to getting on with some group project stuff I also went and played squash with Tom from my group. I had a brilliant time and would definatly play again. I then played Adam my housemate and very happy to report that I have finally managed to beat him. w00t!! So this afternoon I redesigned the layout of my interface and discovered a bug in my software, drat!! Oh well, it was never meant to be easy. Although if i had to do the same project again I think I would do it in Php, very nice language in my opinion. Night readers :)
