Have Fun

Relief, Almost.

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

Well today ws my Strategic Planning and System Development wxam and it could have been alot worse. As it is I know I'm not the exam taker in the word and am never confident in my exam based performace and today is no exception. Whilst I managed to answer all but one small question I am just never confidant in my ability to regurgitate information in an exam. Ho hum. Anyway, today is all about the relaxing then tommorow it's all about the revison for my Software Engineering exam. Doh. Anyway, back to the slobbing for me, cyas!

Weekend Of Doom..

Sunday, April 23rd, 2006

For my car! Yesterday I Took my car to the scrap yardf and left it there :( I am now carless but I think i'll manage ok. I'm only in Hull for another month or so, then I can come back home and get a new car, woo.

Me and Claire also went for a drink with our good friend Lauren, we had a laugh and some drinks and it was nice to catch up. Then me and Claire went for a delicious meal at the Kong Kong, yum!!!

So today I'm going to Hull but not before I've been to church with my mum, steve and Claire and had a sunday dinner, ah, it's a hard life.

Infection

Friday, April 21st, 2006

I'm just sitting down to start listening to Infection a podcast novel by Scott Sigler. Anyone whos been reading for while might remember I mentioned earthcore and that it was amazing, well infection is the third podcast only novel by Scott Sigler and reviews are saying good things! His stories are extreamly well told and well researched. I reccomend that everyone listen to earthcore and i'll let you know how Infection goes. I missed out listening on his second novel Ancestor so if anyone has listened to it or wants to then let me know how it goes.

So today I didn't go to work, there's nothing for me to do. Me and Dad have been travelling along at what seems to be a rate of knots and had everything finished by yesterday afternoon. So I got an unexpected day off today so Claire's going to come over and I fancy a nice drink in a beer garden, woo.

Yesterday I bought myself SAMS Teach Yourself SQL in 24 hours. ofcourse I already know a bit about SQL but wanted a reference book, looking through I think I might have a play with stored procedures, might be fun. but before I do I want to finish the "feature which shall not be named" first but that might have to wait untill i've finished my exams :(.

D'oh! I'm out of things to say, damn. bye

A Working Week

Sunday, April 16th, 2006

This week I've been working with my Dad At St. Aidans CofE Secondary School. They've been having an extension put on the front of the building, some improved offices and a library built, all in all it looks really good and at a guess cost alot of money. SO I've been helping my Dad as he goes about his business installing sockets, wiring fire alarms, installing pavement lights and putting up ceiling lighting. All good fun actually. I'm with him next week aswell and we are going to be installing power sockets on desks in the new library for the new computers, woo.

Yesterday myself, Claire and our good friends Andy Quinn and James Parkes spent the day larking about which was nice, we went to the Claro Beagle in Harrogate to play some pool, then went to James' house for a bit and then we went to Lockwoods in Ripon for a coffee. We ended up staying for a good few hours and enjoying a lovely bottle of chanpagne and some amazing marinated olives courtesy of the chef and our good friend Nick Robinson. If your out and about in Ripon, give Lockwoods a try, it serves some rather tasty coffee in a really nice surrounding, you could do alot worse trust me. So after our bottle of champagne was finished (mostly by me and Quinny, Claire and Parkes were driving) me and Claire headed home and I watched Saw which was infact really good, has even made me want to see Saw II which is cool.

Anyway, now I'm going downstairs to check on the beef joint I put in for dinner and prep some veg. Happy Easter Everyone!

Some Lovely Dish’s

Saturday, April 8th, 2006

Claire and I went down to Dish’s in Ripon where I spent a part of my summer working and had a fantastic lunch. I had a Beef and Black Sheep Ale Stew and Dumpling from the specials board, Claire had the Grilled Rump Steak with Onion Marmalade Sandwich on Ciabata and we shared some Loaded Potatoe skins with cheese and bacon. The steak sandwich is a favorite of mine but the stew and dumplings was fantastic, th dumpling were light and fluffy and just as my mum makes them! I suggest that if you ever want to sample the delights of Ripon then lunch at Dish’s should definately be included in your trip. So check out the menu on the site and plan your trip!!

When I ever get round to it I am going to implyment a section feature so posts can be sectioned (8?). More a reminder for me than anything else. Whilst working on my new blog feature I’ve come up with some more stuff to keep my Php skills on the up. It’ll take longer than anticipated but will (for me) be worth the wait. :) laters!

Carry On Driving

Thursday, April 6th, 2006

After yesterdays mild mannered rant I'm feeling much better about my car today. I've been down the garage and hoovered most of the glass out, I think however that it will take a loong time before all the extrwamly small peices of glass are fully removed from the back seats though.

After what I said yesterday (you can tell it's the holidays :)) I feel now that it's much better to look upon a car as a neccersery investment. Why? Well for one it's going to make finding jobs much easier seeing as relying on the busses isn't a factor. It lets you go places, duh. And finally it's so much fun, it's a hobby in it's own, alright. maybe one of the more expensive hobbies one can have but ho hum.

I've just though of some great little features i can sit and write for my blog. I'll stick them up soon if i finish them. Woo, something to do!! Speaking of something to do, I just got a call from my Dad who's got me a job working with him for a week. Wickedness, last time I worked with Dad I really enjoyed it. Should be fun to spend some time with him, I can't wait.

What A Carry On

Wednesday, April 5th, 2006

As much as I love having a car and the independance that goes with it. I sometimes think that I might be better of without it.

First off theres the insurance which is a healthy £650 a year, then tax at around £120 a year, MOT around £50 a year. So before i've even touched the tarmac I've spent almost £850. damn. And with the future of fuel prices about as predicatable as a hookers pants thats even more money gone(the fuel not the hooker).

The last couple of months havn't been my favourite where my car is concerned. 2 windows broken one of which getting repaired this afternoon and I had to get the AA out yesterday to start it because I hadn't been out in it for a month because it's had the broken window.

Whether it's a good thing or not I decided that I was going to concentrate on my uni work over the past month and not get my car fixed untill now, the advantage is i got my work done without adding any more stress to things, the bad thing is I've neglected my car. Normally I would use my car 2 or 3 times a week to go to and from the gym but with so much work and the car not working thats gone out the window too. Apart from the odd game of squash and walking to uni i've not got much excercise so i'm feeling a little unfit. Still, i'm fitter now than I have been for a long time which is nice.

Anyway, i'm going to finish packing.
toodles!!

Birthdays and Firewalls

Monday, April 3rd, 2006

Well, Friday night was a hoot, Danny Ashcroft a very good friend of nearly 10 years (omg) had his 21st birthday in Attic in Hull. I've not been in attic before and have to say it's plush! He rented the VIP lounge upstairs and it was very nice indeed. Danny got suitably wasted and was still recovering on Sunday. Great stuff. So Happy Birthday Mate, Many Happy Returns ;)

On Sunday Me, Claire and Kwame went and watched Firewall at cineworld in kingswood. A pretty good film and one which as a computer science student I only went "Thats complete and utter crap" once, something to do with the firewall. Or at least it sounded like utter crap, it could be that I don't know anything about what he was saying I admit.

The film is basically about a banks security 'guy' who has built the banks state of the art network. Very clever guy. Without giving the plot away he's blackmailed into stealing money from the very bank he's been protecting for 30 odd years. Good stuff. I'll admit, I enjoyed swordfish but this is sooo much better.

In other news, Claire and I were trying to get tickets to this year Leeds Festival but failed… ok, gave up. Seetickets.com was taking the beating of it's life and we decided to save our money and try go skiing, much more fun.
