On Memory Loss, TV, Music and Cinema

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

It would appear, if you talked to Claire that I’m losing my marbles. But take no notice of her, we just met ;)

Sorry in advance for the long post, I’m on a bit of a hyperactive thinking streak, I’ve got lots going on in my head and it feels good to be mentally busy again :)

Is it just me or is TV getting better of late? It seems to go through patches like the movie and music industry of being boring and not having much to shout about. The last few weeks however, I think all three have got much better recently.

I’ve been watching and really loving a few shows on TV, obviously, following on from my previous post, I’ve loving Life on Mars but there’s a few other really good shows I’ve found myself watching such as The Friday Night Project which has a different celebrity guest host every week, Primeval which is actually pretty good for an ITV sci-fi drama, Pokerface with Ant and Dec and of course the new series of Top Gear. Add that to my also previously blogged about shows of The Truth About Food and You Are What You Eat and I’m finding myself in front of the TV quite a bit.

Music, whoa! There’s quite a bit of music out there that I’m really enjoying. I’m really liking gossip at the moment and after seeing them on ‘the Friday night project’ and checking out their myspace page as well. I bought Nas’ new album ‘Hip-Hop is dead’ earlier this yeah and that’s knocked my socks off, it’s awesome. After hearing Ludacris’ Girls Gone Wild from his latest album ‘Release Therapy’ whilst on the Ollie C Show I’m loving it and think I’ll buy the album. Other tunes and bands or artists I’m enjoying include but aren’t limited too The Ordinary Boys, Mika, Klaxons, The Feeling, The Frey, The View, Fallout Boy, Just Jack and Jamie T. No more jump straight into my head at the moment. Watching ‘freshly squeezed’ at 7am on a weekday morning is a brilliant way to keep up to date with current and new music, give it a look. Sorry for the lack of music related links, it was pushing it a bit.

Cinima is looking up already for 2007 with the release of Smokin’ Aces and Hot Fuzz. I’ve seen Smokin’ Aces and really enjoyed it, I’m planning to see Hot Fuzz in a couple of months as I’ve heard and been told that it is outstandingly funny. I can’t wait. It’s going to be a pay day treat I think :) I also want to see The Number 23 with Jim Carey as it looks really good and I’m looking forward to seeing Carey in a more serious role. For the huge list of what’s happening this year in the cinema take a look here

Well, I think that’s it for tonight, I’ve got some Top Gear to watch and Gladiator is on later, woo!

Life on Mars

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

I can’t believe it, Claire turns on the TV and Life on Mars is back on! I have no idea how many episodes I’ve missed but it’s such a great series!

Ohhh, I’ve just found out from my good friend Sam, whose also watching it, that this is the first episode, get in!! All thanks to Adam my house mate in university for getting me into this, it’s brilliant.

The truth about food

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

Has anyone else been watching the BBC series The truth about food? I’ve watched the last three episodes and it’s great. Basically the show proves or disproves popular theories about what, how, when and how much we eat and drink. As someone with more than a passive interest in food I’ve found it to be a really eye opening series and hope that everyone else would too. I highly recommend watching it :)

Has anyone else seen The Texas Chainsaw Massacre(2003 version)? I started watching it but stopped because it was too late and I was tired, it was also moving really slow. Is the 2003 version or the 1974 version better? I think I’ll have to watch both of them and see.

Smokin’ Aces

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

Last night, Claire, Sam and I went to watch Smokin’ Aces in York and it was ace!

We decided we would make a bit of a night of it and went for some food, a couple of drinks and a good catch up at a pub near to the cinema which was really cool. Definitely do it that way again.I really enjoyed the film, Sam I think enjoyed it but not as much as me and Claire, well… I think she would rather have gone to sleep had she not eaten so many sugary sweets.

I was expecting something really clever where all the pieces fit together at the end like a Tarrentino movie but no. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t what I think the film was made out to be from the trailers. The trailers also made out it was a blood fest from start to finish which it wasn’t, thank goodness.

I think that the next film I go and see will be Hot Fuzz as it looks brilliant!

Another trip to Dish’s was called for yesterday Morning and by was it needed(how Yorkshire was that?). Claire and me both had a Breakfast of Champions and to be perfectly honest I could go for another right now! Top notch as always!

For anyone who listen to the Ollie C Show this week Claire will be returning again next week as our guest. Come check us out.
