What a week

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Last week was tiring. I was in London with Steve and we put in some loooong days and there was no internet :O.

I’ve just come from an interview in Leeds which I hope went well. I was pretty nervous it has to be said and don’t think I did too well on the technical questions :( That said, my interview was in an indoor igloo, lol. Got to thank Claire, Sam, Wes and Steve for thier advice too :) Got some details on a programming job to come in Ripon too, which sounds good. Why is it everything happens all at once huh?

Well, now I’m going to put some music on and chillout seeing as I’ve earned my day off and this afternoon, seeing as Claire and I are in Leeds, we thought we’d go grab some lunch with Sam, which will be cool.

Twittering on

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

I’ve succumb to the dark side, that’s right, I’ve signed up to to Twitter. I’ve been hearing lots of thing about it for a while but never thought there was a point to it. Well now, I know there’s no point but boy is it fun! Give it a try, it’s pointless fun at it’s best.

For anyone who tunes in regularly or who has been following my project 365 but I’ve been a bad boy, I’ve not been keeping it up to date. The pictures are taken but they’ve not managed to magically make their way to the internet yet, oopsie daisy. But I will endeavour to get it done… before the end of the year ;)

I got myself two 19″ wide-screen monitors (that’s 2880×1800 pixels of desktop goodness), an NVidia 7600gs graphics card and am playing through Half-Life: 2 again and I’ve got to say that even though I played through it on my NVidia 4200Ti (I loved that card, it was great. Is it sad to be sentimental about a graphics card?) on low settings and the game ran fine I’m impressed with how it looks this time around. I’m in Ravenholme where lesser game players abandoned the game at such a point(lol, love you Kasp ;)).

I also got an intelliplug and it’s great. Check it out, it won’t save the planet but it will save a few pennies off you’re phone bill. Also check out the Intellipanel, wish i’d got one these instead, ho hum.

Blackpool

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

Well, what a couple of weeks it’s been and I can safely say I’m in need of this bank holiday weekend. I need to relax for a bit.

On Thursday Claire and I went to Blackpool for the day which was awesome. Claire strongly encouraged ;) me that we should go up Blackpool tower as she’d never been and seeing as I’d never been either I didn’t really have an excuse.

So on we went to Tower World (a tacky name if you ask me) to go up the tower. I was surprised at the entrance to learn it was

Eating out, shopping and design

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

It’s been a good weekend for eating out this weekend. On Friday night Claire and I went to our favourite restaurant, The Hong Kong in Ripon and on Saturday we went to the Staveley Arms, North Stainley and had a really nice meal, except for the dessert. I had a slice of apple pie and it wasn’t cooked properly and was cold. Apart from that the meal was brilliant.

Claire and I have just got back from Tesco in Thirsk where Claire was very adamant that we should use the self service machine. I don’t know about you lot but it seems a little weird than me and definitely took a little longer then a person would have taken. You start by scanning the items in and them you have to place them on the conveyor belt and they make their way to the end. This seemed odd to me, the only reason I can think of for the machine to scream at you if you don’t put the item on the conveyor is that it counts them as you scan them, or the cameras are watching them. I dunno, if anyone can help me with this I’d be grateful, it’s just puzzling me.

I’ve been working on a new design for my website and it’s close to going live, I just have to integrate the admin panel and Robert’s your mothers brother! More on that as it happens!

insert interesting title here!!

I finally went and saw hot fuzz! Oh yes it was good! I thought that it had been hyped up a little too much but was still a brilliant film. Sam, Claire, Ollie C and I went to Vue at kirkstall road in Leeds last Sunday and had a great time. Sam also brought his Wii over on Saturday night and I finally got to have a go, yes that’s right, I hadn’t played it until a week ago. Me and Claire are somewhat impressed by it and have vowed to have one when we get our own place.

This week I’ve been mostly working, have had a really good week and Thursday was a great day, I went into Harrogate for a business seminar with Sam and it was great.

Tonight Claire, me, Sam, Lauren, James and Yvonne are meeting in Harrogate at Yokos Teppanyaki Japanese restaurant for a meal. It’s come highly recommended by so many people not just for the food but for the experience. I’m really looking forward to it, I’ll let you know how it was.

Project 365

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

Ok, I’ve been sitting on this for a while now, thought I’d tell people about it.

Some of you may have seen other people on the net participating in a Project 365 of their own but for those that haven’t I’ll give you a basic introduction. Basically the aim is to take a picture for everyday of the year. That’s it.

I started one on new years day and I’ve managed to keep up with it as well :)

Take a look for yourself and let me know what you think. One thing to keep in mind is that I’m taking the picture on my phones camera so not all the pictures are amazing :P

On Memory Loss, TV, Music and Cinema

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

It would appear, if you talked to Claire that I’m losing my marbles. But take no notice of her, we just met ;)

Sorry in advance for the long post, I’m on a bit of a hyperactive thinking streak, I’ve got lots going on in my head and it feels good to be mentally busy again :)

Is it just me or is TV getting better of late? It seems to go through patches like the movie and music industry of being boring and not having much to shout about. The last few weeks however, I think all three have got much better recently.

I’ve been watching and really loving a few shows on TV, obviously, following on from my previous post, I’ve loving Life on Mars but there’s a few other really good shows I’ve found myself watching such as The Friday Night Project which has a different celebrity guest host every week, Primeval which is actually pretty good for an ITV sci-fi drama, Pokerface with Ant and Dec and of course the new series of Top Gear. Add that to my also previously blogged about shows of The Truth About Food and You Are What You Eat and I’m finding myself in front of the TV quite a bit.

Music, whoa! There’s quite a bit of music out there that I’m really enjoying. I’m really liking gossip at the moment and after seeing them on ‘the Friday night project’ and checking out their myspace page as well. I bought Nas’ new album ‘Hip-Hop is dead’ earlier this yeah and that’s knocked my socks off, it’s awesome. After hearing Ludacris’ Girls Gone Wild from his latest album ‘Release Therapy’ whilst on the Ollie C Show I’m loving it and think I’ll buy the album. Other tunes and bands or artists I’m enjoying include but aren’t limited too The Ordinary Boys, Mika, Klaxons, The Feeling, The Frey, The View, Fallout Boy, Just Jack and Jamie T. No more jump straight into my head at the moment. Watching ‘freshly squeezed’ at 7am on a weekday morning is a brilliant way to keep up to date with current and new music, give it a look. Sorry for the lack of music related links, it was pushing it a bit.

Cinima is looking up already for 2007 with the release of Smokin’ Aces and Hot Fuzz. I’ve seen Smokin’ Aces and really enjoyed it, I’m planning to see Hot Fuzz in a couple of months as I’ve heard and been told that it is outstandingly funny. I can’t wait. It’s going to be a pay day treat I think :) I also want to see The Number 23 with Jim Carey as it looks really good and I’m looking forward to seeing Carey in a more serious role. For the huge list of what’s happening this year in the cinema take a look here

Well, I think that’s it for tonight, I’ve got some Top Gear to watch and Gladiator is on later, woo!

Smokin’ Aces

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

Last night, Claire, Sam and I went to watch Smokin’ Aces in York and it was ace!

We decided we would make a bit of a night of it and went for some food, a couple of drinks and a good catch up at a pub near to the cinema which was really cool. Definitely do it that way again.I really enjoyed the film, Sam I think enjoyed it but not as much as me and Claire, well… I think she would rather have gone to sleep had she not eaten so many sugary sweets.

I was expecting something really clever where all the pieces fit together at the end like a Tarrentino movie but no. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t what I think the film was made out to be from the trailers. The trailers also made out it was a blood fest from start to finish which it wasn’t, thank goodness.

I think that the next film I go and see will be Hot Fuzz as it looks brilliant!

Another trip to Dish’s was called for yesterday Morning and by was it needed(how Yorkshire was that?). Claire and me both had a Breakfast of Champions and to be perfectly honest I could go for another right now! Top notch as always!

For anyone who listen to the Ollie C Show this week Claire will be returning again next week as our guest. Come check us out.

Weekly Roundup

Sunday, January 28th, 2007

It’s been a really busy week. A really busy week.

Whilst doing the normal work thing (apart from Thursday when I was ill) I helped with the Harrogate Phoenix Players production of My Fair Lady. Tuesday I went to the technical rehearsal where the stage crew learnt what they were doing and what they were moving.

Wednesday night I was on the Ollie C Show on RadioRSP as normal, which I always enjoy. This Wednesday we have Claire as our special guest and some special features that should be really entertaining, for us at the very least. So if you find yourself at a loose end then tune in on Wednesday night from 7-9.

Thursday night I spent doing nothing, which was nice but Friday night it was back to the theatre for My Fair Lady. After the show a large number of the cast and crew went to Jinnah in Harrogate for an Indian. Whilst I’m not the biggest fan of spicy foods, the Jinnah was fantastic. The service was great on account of there were 32 or so of us.

Saturday was spent at the theatre with two shows and a meal at Pinocchio’s in between. Claire joined us for the meal and then sat and watched the show which she enjoyed.

Today Claire and me went to Scarborough for some fish and chips, a traditional British day out! We also hit the arcades where we played on a large number of two pence machines and time crisis just because we’re both big kids when it comes to arcades, lol.
